Now, I think this can say a lot about the LAN owner hehe. Mine are named after swords in some of the fantasy series that I've read.
Anyone care to share?

Here we normally have equal numbers of Windows and linux workstations, and normally get pairs of them at the same time, same hardware. We are a bit of a pessimistic lot, thus:
Fear and Loathing (linux)
Pain and Anguish (windows)
Dismay (windows) and Confusion (linux)
Our printer, by the way, is The_Horror
In the undergrad office, there is a South Park theme:
Kenny
Kyle
Stan
Cartman
Mrhat
Other pairs found in labs:
Odd and Even
Id and Ego
One student is thinking of naming all his lab computers after cartoon villians:
Cobracommander
Skeletor
Megatron
Destro
In more serious labs, they name the computers after the chief scientists of their field:
Fowler and Hoyle (nuclear astrophysics)

I've always had trouble picking names for my boxes. It's like naming a pet - I'm worried that I'll influence their personality too much. Anyhow, the three machines on my LAN at the moment are tentatively named:
jedi (the Windows box that my wife uses)
dexter (Linux firewall)
pierce (our last name; was langley.gunmen.com, but is the start of hopefully a series of boxes in the pierce.com domain. Primary machine, Linux)
Names I've considered using include: Langley, Byers, Frohicke (from the Lone Gunmen); Dexter, Didi, Mandark, Monkey, etc. (from Dexter's Laboratory - regardless, I have Monkey and Dexter backgrounds on my main box :) ) and of course if we ever got a really huge network we could go through the Star Wars universe and use all those names... I'm thinking of using the characters from the TV series Firefly, in memorial since it was cancelled. So maybe Malcolm, Jayne, Simon, etc. and of course the classics from Star Trek: Kirk, Spock, Scotty, Picard, Data, Worf, Geordi... always make good computer names. (the network at a place I used to work had those)

I must be boring -after replacing this box's SuSE 7.3 last night with SuSE 8.1 I renamed it "PrimaryDesk," the server closet houses "grafix-1" which is not being used as a server at the moment, and my laptop is "laplinux" --I don't know what all my son's boxes are called anymore since he plays musical OS on them so often.

I tend to use descriptive names, and since I also tend to paint my computers, I have bluebox, redbox, purplebox, greyboy, etc. It makes it incredibly easy to remember which is which, and my wife and kids know right away which machine I'm talking about too.
I used to have them set up as objects in our solar system, with sol being the main server, and the other machines named after the planets, but I kept forgeting which was which.

this one's a slackware 8.1 box called "slack" for now, and the more powerful windows machine (i know, that's an oxymoron) is called "Athlon" after its processor. I was gonna name this one after it's processor too, but "Celeron" sucks. Some of the names on here inspire me to change though

Damn.....I must be wierd. Mine are all named after what they do.
eg. CORT is Central Office RooT
My gateway routers are all GW_XXXX with the variable being the four letter designation for their location.
My snort boxes are NIDS_XXXX again with the same four letter designation for their location.
I do have a Master_Log, which- you guessed it- holds all the logs from my Syslog_XXXX servers, which log the activities off my PIXes.
My home network is Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary.......
I must have no imagination.

I'm a big fan of Robert Heinlein. I'm typing this from Miverna, I'm expecting a laptop that will be named Dora, and a old box I'll use for a firewall. I was gonna name it Mike, but I think I'll go with Teena instead, as Mike should be reserved if I ever setup a beowolf cluster (after all, buth are super computers)
I'm hesitant to name a handheld, when I get one, gay deciever, although that would be the most appropriate. it could easily be interpeted the wrong way, and I already get too much S:N in life

CHOAM - Router/Firewall
SandTrout - Old Acer Notelight laptop
Shai-Hulud - New Dell Inspiron laptop

The non-Dune exceptions...
Frodo was fitting for the Gateway, it is small, underpowered and was expected to do great tasks :p
Luny2ny is an old joke of ours, I tried to get it on my license plate, but Illinois doesn't allow numbers in the middle

This is a pretty cool thread! Some of the names I use are anime-related, so read no further if that sounds worrying.
My old Red Hat 6.0 install was called jusenkyo. I had bad experiences with Red Hat, especially Red Hat 6.0. Thus, when I installed Debian Sid on it, I changed the name to clowbook.
After I resized my family's broken Windows2000 computer to put Linux on it, I decided to call it twilight (not a reference to anything, just a pleasant-sounding name).
There are a few Windows computers in my house-- but none of them have names, true to Windows form.
I plan to buy a new computer over the summer. I'll probably call it menchi or something silly like that, unless if anyone has any suggestions. :)

While my current home network has unimaginatively logical names, I'm moving out soon and will be taking some of my boxes with me. I'm planning on names from the anime "Cowboy Bebop" just because I'm a fan and bored.
Router- Ein
Server (p133 desktop drafted into the job)- Jet
Old 166 workstation- Ed
Shiny new P4 laptop- Spike
In case you're interested, my current names are below-
momanddad (My parent's WinXP box)
boyscomp (An AMD 500Mhz Linux box that myself and my brother "share")
venomserv (server)
scrapshack (workstation in my mum's scrapbooking shed)
And, if you've noticed, not all the machines in the top are in the bottom and vice versa.

Mine are (currently) Foxicle, Sabin, Cid, Celes, Mog, and Edgar. Those are the ones I know well enough to give names to, anyway.
Only Foxicle has a real reason to it, though. It's always as bright and friendly as a fox, even giving a welcoming "beep" when I turn on the power. If it had the body of one, I'm sure it would curl up next to me and go to sleep.
It's also as cold as an icicle. Think "cold and calculating," not "cold shoulder," or "freezing." It has an unbelievably devious side to it, when you play against it in chess! Yes, the name is a contradiction, but it seems to fit amazingly well.
The others are simply names from Final Fantasy (though I found fitting characters, in each case).

Where do you name your computer? I've never installed a distro that asked me, "What did you name your computer?"
Besides what Sharth said; if you have multiple computers on a network, you'll also want to add the names and IP's to your /etc/hosts file, or your DNS.
If you use the hosts file, make sure it have the same info on all of your computers (works on WinXX and Mac's too!). Then all the computers on the LAN will know each other by name.
