linux based handheld

Does anyone know if there will be, or is currently a handheld with Linux installed? That will be sweet if there is one.:cool:

If handheld = PDA, then check out the Sharp Zaurus PDAs (they come with Linux with QT Embedded). Also, you can even install Linux on the Compaq iPaqs.

Just wait it out. I suspect that Linux based handhelds will be getting more abundant and cheaper.

The Zaurus is Linux based not Pocket PC

The Zaurus is based (IIRC) on uCLinux, with Qtopia as the DE - it is most definitely Linux (and I want one :( )

You should also checkout the Agenda VR3, now resurrected with www.softfield.com - a Palm-alike and a lot cheaper than the Zaurus.

There are _loads_ of other projects, both real and yet-to-be-realised: you can cut the cost of your handheld by running Linux on it instead of paying for WinCE, and so a lot of companies have gone that way. The Zaurus is probably the best and most well-known to date.

The zaurus is a great linux based pda. There are some problems with it though. For example, it doesn't come with software to sync to a linux desktop (you can download software though). It is true that you can install linux on a pocket pc (which is fun). There is also a new linux pda design that was just put out by IBM. There was a story (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/01/22/1730217&mode=thread) over on slashdot a few days ago about it.

If i was going to get a pda right now it would be the zaurus. Stick an 802.11b CF card in that and post to this site from anywhere in my house. And you have to love the keyboard!

I was planning to purchase the 3850 a couple of months ago though I decided to wait until the new HP models are released in sometime in February I believe.

One of our managers (first time Linux user as of last week) told me that Viewsonic has a PDA that may come with Linux preinstalled.

So now I am considering
