hello

i have been using linux for about a year and a half now (on and off) and there are still apsects of it i dont grasp at all and this bugs me to no end. i want to understand everything that goes on inside my little box and be able to have absolute control over everything. this is very possible in linux, i know this, but before you can do that you have to learn all about the inner workings of linux...

in my quest for understanding i believe i am going to make a LFS box. after that, i hope to set up a firewall/proxy server on another 486 box i have lying around.

i am asking for any helpful links people may have that i would fine useful in beginning to uncover the inner workings of linux.

nhf's or not...dont hesitate to post anything. i am needy for information.

thank you and have a nice day

Try Linux Documentation Project (http://www.linuxdoc.org/). They have some great information. Also, just head to Google (http://www.google.com/) and run a search for "linux" You're going to find some great stuff. Keep reading!

LFS is a good start. Also, using a distro that allows you to get into the guts of the filesystem and tweak like mad (ie Slack or Debian) will greatly help. And trying to help people here always helps you as well, and reading solutions for problems you may not have had but are curious about is good too. Read news about Linux. Read books about it :) It'll become very clear eventually, depending upon how much time you put into it.
