with support for sysv already and the fact that every distro I can think of, fully implimenting sysv init scripts, do you think slack will convert anytime soon / ever?

PLBlaze 01-10-2001, 02:33 AM Hmm...i think if they really wanted they'd already use att's sysv initialization scripts.Besides what's wrong with bsd ones? But they are nice to give you an option to use sysv scripts if you prefer them over bsd. Finally i guess we will leave that option to the one who maintains it. EscapeCharacter 01-10-2001, 02:35 AM i sure hope not i really like the bsd format much better than the systemV one its cleaner and much more organized. ------------------ I like source it never *****es about dependencies --Escchr 2000 Strike 01-10-2001, 02:39 AM Aren't the Debian scripts BSD-init style? I dunno, the differences aren't that huge as far as I am concerned. syn 01-10-2001, 03:29 AM yeah but its just the fact that its kinda like a standard, even though it is just a matter of directory structure and splitting up the bsd style scripts into seperate ones, I dunno, just a wonder http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif syn 01-10-2001, 03:30 AM ps I didnt see in the slack install the option of using either sysV OR bsd style init i thought that it just had SUPPORT for sysV nopun 01-10-2001, 08:37 AM Isn't the major difference all this run-level stuff? - ie sysv has it, bsd does not. (plus I think sysv provides further inter-process communication mechanisms) Debian is definately sysv. Blackknight 01-10-2001, 11:51 AM I hope not. The day it does is the day I stop using it. And yes, BSD init scripts do have run levels. That's what /etc/rc.d/rc.M, rc.S, rc.0, rc.6, etc are for. They're all called from the main init script. PLBlaze 01-10-2001, 01:59 PM syn, there's no option in install but look for rc.sysvinit under /etc/rc.d. justlinux.com
