cdrecord help

Thanks to the help of several folks here I have successfully installed cdrecord on an ancient IBM ps2/77 debian box. However the pogram hangs when it enter the fixate stage. I can't even open a second terminal to kill the program. I have to do a full hard reboot. The cd is successfully burned also. Please help.
