Hi. I need some information for installing Linux. I have been out of the loop for a few years, meaning very little to no contact with computers. I have installed linux in the past. It was RedHat Linux 5.1 kernel 2.0.32. I remember you needed a bootdisk to start the installation. My question is this. Is it possible for me to download a linux distribution from the internet and install it on my box without a bootdisk. Do I need a bootdisk, and if so, how can I get one without purchasing a boxed set? Thank you.

if your computer can boot from cd then you don't need a boot disk.

if you require a boot disk then check the website for the distro you are going to be installing. look for the install instructions - it is usually there.

All cd's burned/created properly from the downloaded iso images are bootable as long as your bios supports booting from cd.
