When I tried to install the touchpad drivers for my synaptics touchpad, x wouldn't boot. I fixed it, but no touchpad. I have that cheapo generic i-buddie4. Has anyone gotten the synaptics touchpads to work on Linux? If you have, then please post.

I don't have the synaptics touchpad myself though I do have a Glidepoint touchpad (serial) on my Cirque keyboard.
What drivers did you install for the touchpad and how are they loaded etc.?

It told me to alter some files in the XF86Config file. I did what it said and x wouldn't boot, so I deleted all the stuff I put in. I don't think my drivers are compatible. I'll just use an external mouse.

Have you tried searching around for any tutorials/docs on the synaptics touchpad?
Have a look through these G4L search results for synaptics touchpad (http://www.google.com/linux?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=synaptics+touchpad&btnG=Google+Search).

I already did a search for it before posting. I did find to drivers, but they didn't work, and one screwed up my GUI.

It may or may not be because I have this Generic laptop that was made in Taiwan.
