I new to linux and more have more experience with Software than hardware but...

I want to connect up my CD-ROM (or DVD) drive to my sound card since I've learned that Linux uses that for CD Audio playback.

I've gone as far as opening up my PC and found the plug on the back of the CD and DVD drives.

I guess I have my sound card integrated with the mother board, and I looked around on the mother board and found 2 plugs in the same area that look like the right kind of plug to connect into, but I'm not really sure that it is the right spot. They are close to where my video card is connected.

1) Do any other plugs look sort of the same?

2) Is there any danger in connecting one of my drives up and seeing if it works?

Also on a related note:

3) Is there any reason to connect up both drives or one drive over the other?

4) Does DVD playback require this type of connection to be present?

5) Does CD audio ripping require one of these types of connections to be present?

Thanks for your help!

The audio cable is just for playback and is not required for burning CD's. If possible check the motherboad manual to verify which connector is for the audio. The connector next to the video card is probably a power connector for AGP PRO cards and so you do not want to connect it to your CD or DVD drive. This power connector should look the same as the power connector for the CD and DVD drives.
