kernel patch question...

hello

im trying to get an HP ScanJet 5100c parallel prt scanner woking.

what i have:

Mandrake 7.0
2.2.14-15mdk kernel
sane-1.0.1-8mdk

patchs: (not sure which i need)

patch 2.2.17-ppdev1
ppSCSI-0.91.patch
patch-2.2.14-ppdev1
patch-2.2.15pre14-ppscsi1

i have read the NHF here on the Microtek Scanmaker X6, and tried to execute the patches the same with: patch -p0 < (patch) but each time i get the same error stating it either cant open certain directories, or files dont exsist followed by a question as to which file i wish to patch.

any suggestions?

Do you have the kernel source installed? And are you applying the patch as root?

im not on my linux rig at the moment, but i do beleive the source is installed - (could be wrong though) - and yes, installing as root.
