This is presumably a fairly obvious question, but how does one go about dual-booting?

I tried patitioning my HD, installing windows on one half, then redhat on the other.

This resulted in RedHat working, but I don't know how to boot windows - I tried using a boot disk and running c:\windows\win.exe, but got icky error messages.

First off, I believe the command to start Windows would be win.com, not win.exe but just typing win should suffice.

If you have installed LILO in the master boot record when the prompt comes up hit the Tab key to see a list of options. It may be that all you have to do is type dos or windows to get into windows. Please see the Lilo mini-howto. Then from Linux rerun LILO and be sure you include the option to boot both Linux and Windows.

That said, you can almost always get back to Windows (assuming you did not wipe it out by installing Linux in the wrong partition) by booting from the Windows startup disk and typing fdisk /mbr at the prompt. This will reslut in Windows working and Linux will no longer boot except from a Linux boot floppy - so make one before you start.
