Hey,
I want to set up samba as my PDC. I have done everything that the Samba-PDC-HOWTO documentation said, and I also followed the steps in this How I Did It!! article (http://www.linuxnewbie.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=40877&highlight=Domain+Controller) . Now when I try to join the domain from my Windows 2000 machine, I get the following error:
The following error occurred when validating the name "WOLFE905". This condition may be caused by a DNS lookup problem. For more information about troubleshooting common DNS lookup problems, please see the following Microsoft Web Site:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=5171
The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.
I went to microsoft's web site to see if I could relate any of their solutions to samba as as PDC, and nothing helped. I added an entry to my C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file (I think that is the right path) so that my computer knows my domain (WOLFE905) is controlled by my linux PDC (10.0.0.1). This helped me to be able to see the domain with ping for example, but when I go to join it it doesnt work.
If anybody has any ideas please let me know.
