Setting Up Domain Name

My apache server is already working. My problem is In my browser I should type the IP address to view my webpage. I want to change it to a name like barok.makatirepublic.com. I have my own static Ip adress and i'm using mandrake 7.1.Thanks for your reply!

Or for free you can register a domain at www.dyndns.org, (http://www.dyndns.org) you would have something like barok.DYNDNS.Org or barok.HomeIP.Net etc. Worth checking out for a good looking free and so far very reliable service.

this is what i would do

register makamakatirepublic.com at www.dotster.com (http://www.dotster.com)

https://www.dotster.com/registration/step_01/checkdomain.asp?DomainName=makatirepublic.com&x=31&y=27

use their really http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/cool.gif online account manager to point the domain to the centralinfo.net name servers

PRIMARY NS1.CENTRALINFO.NET 63.102.200.2
SECONDARY NS2.CENTRALINFO.NET 63.102.204.130

https://www.centralinfo.net/login_secure.asp?redir=dns_services.asp

then make an account with www.centralinfo.net (http://www.centralinfo.net) and put your static ip address in

now, as long as your server is online with that static ip, anybody on the internet that hits makatirepublic.com will see your web site!

you might want to check on centralinfo.net They've been having some problems with spam so they had stopped accepting new accounts... I'm not sure if they've opened then back up or not.
