Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Monitor Refresh Frequency
Hi Everybody
I installed RedHat 8.0, and I think the screen is bit too slow to refresh.
Can some please tell me how I can change it to a higher frequency.
Thank you.

Hi
Thanks for the tip. My machine didn't have a process with that name to kill, but it took me into the x86 configurator. I played around with it and got too scared about specifying the monitor brand. I found a monitor configuration tool in GUI and discovered that monitor wasn't correctly specified. I chose the correct type and the picture is much better now.
I am trying to compare the configuration with Windows, where you can just specify that the monitor's frequency is 75Hz. In Linux you seem to have to know the horizontal+vertical freqencies, which is not easy to find out.
Thanks a lot again.

If you have Windows, the easiest way to find you refresh rate is (in Windows) to set your screen at the desired resolution normally, then press the little button on your monitor that brings up the On-screen display The OSD should present you with the refresh rate. Make a note of this, and the resolution, then repeat for the rest of the resolutions you will be using. This way, you will be able to tell X exactly what refresh rates to use at a given resolution.

that still doesnt figure out the vertical an horizontal refresh rates. For those, just check your monitor guide, or look for your model with google.
