Hey everybody...

Well, i finally decided to give it a shot and try to install redhat linux on my pc... anyway, i got out this kinda old (98) book from my college's library.. it comes with a redhat CD, ver 5.2 ... so i did a search at RH's site, to see if they supported my SB Live platinum card, and not surprisingly, it is supported, but in release 7.0 :/

Im guessing since my PC is relatively new, im
gonna find a lot more of unsupported hardware
in this version.. so , what do you guys reccomend? just go out and get the latest release? or can i somehow download drivers from their site for use with this installation CD i have?

Anyway, thanks for your time...

Hi! I have just switched over to Redhat 7 from windows recently, so I'm pretty new too. IMHO, I would suggest that you get the latest 7.0 release. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I think ver 5.2 is not supported anymore.

I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to linux, but I have installed and ran RH6.2 and it picked up on my SBLive first time up. If you have version 5.2, you can always compile a newer kernel along with other components that have been updated since then. I can't recall which kernel starts support for USB but it was either 2.2.16 or 2.2.18. Then again, my RH6.2 was just $20. Depends on how you want to go about it. Just my 2 cents.

My card is called SBLive Value. Is it the same? I am using RH7. No problem with the sound.
