to get my @home modem to work i need to change my computer name, say i need it to be cmk65492-b what would i type in? i've look for 'man computer name -k' and can't find anything.

Go to linuxconf. There should be a networking tab that lets you specify what hostname your computer will be. I don't remember the exact location, but it is there somewhere. :)

well there is losts of diff ways to change your host name, it depents on your distrubution, redhat- linuxconf, suse= yast :p

Or, at the CL "hostname <desiredhostname>"
