I have no idea as to if AOL will work in Linux, but to get past that error, just type:
"mkdir /root/.wine/c_drive/windows/Fonts"
and the error will go away. let me know if AOL actually installs in Linux.

Thanks . That fixed the error. Now I get this when I run wine setup.exe.
[root@Tux01 AOL]# mkdir /root/.wine/c_drive/windows/Fonts
[root@Tux01 AOL]# wine SETUP.EXE
Loading required GL library /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2
[root@Tux01 AOL]#
How can I test if winex actually works before I try something like aol ?

I am not sure how to test other than to install something, I mean you can type wine by it self to find out if it is installed, to to test to see if it is working, I think would require installing something with. I could be wrong though. you can try this:
if you have a copy of SOL.exe on a windows hard drive or partition, copy it to your Linux drive, and type "wine SOL.exe" in a term window, see if it loads. sorry, but that is about the best I can offer at this point.

if you're trying to get AOL to run in Linux I'm pretty sure I've seen ports of it out there without needing to emulate it, so I'd check around, sorry don't recall any links... try searching http://freshmeat.net or http://www.sourceforge.net for AOL
As for your wine problem it looks like you're missing the libGL files... you will also probably have to search for those as well... What distro do you have? I would check in your distros packages first.

I have mandrake9. Thanks for the info. I'll look for it. Also I have made progress. This is the error message now . It shows up in a window like error box. " This application or DLL can not be loaded on Windows 95 or on Windows 3.1. It takes advantage of unicode features only available on Windows NT. "
In my .wine/config I've changed the os from win95 to winnt and I've added the
mfc42.dll in my fake windows/system32 dir. Am I on the right track ?

I don't know if you are on the right track or not, but you did, just what I would have done. :)

Hi there,
I think your best bet would be to try GAIM, it's on sourceforge...
It supports MSN Mess, AOL IM, and all the rest
Good luck :)

Talking about wine I have this problem with it.
when I tried to run wine launcher its says
Invoking /usr/local/bin/wine ...
which: no winesetup in (/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/bin:
/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/games:
/opt/www/htdig/bin:/opt/kde/bin:
/usr/lib/qt-3.0.4/bin:/usr/share/texmf/bin:.)
thats meant that I dont have winesetup in my PATH but where do I find it what is supposed to be inside?
thanxs a lot

I don't think he is trying to install an Instant Messenger, I think he is trying to install the AOL access software. but I could be wrong.

I could just be a stupid newbie, but it seems to me even if you manage to install AOL you will still need a version of IE installed, or it won't work
