OK, I've had trouble using Netscape's active installer to install Netscape 6. I selected a full install when prompted, and it began downloading files. Every time I tried however it would quit halfway through. I read a question on this site where someone suggested going to ftp.netscape.com to get the binearies I needed. Doing this, I ultimately ended up downlading the file:
netscape-i686-pc-linux-sea.tar.gz
I untarred this file and ran the netscape-installer program which it uncompressed. My questions are, is this the correct file, and if so how do I start netscape. Just typing netscape brought up my old 4.75 browser. The only command I could find that worked was executed after the install was completed and was as follows:
run-mozilla.sh /usr/local/netscape/mozilla-bin -installer
Is there another way to launch version 6, this seems a little long winded.

The startup file should be in /usr/local/netscape. Type ./netscape, and it should start it for you.

Then, once you know that works, make an icon that's linked to it.

usr/local/netscape launches my old 4.75 copy of Netscape.

The excutive binary should be in the same folder where you untarred the package, with name "netscape". So command "./netscape" on the same folder should pop-up the oh-so heavy new Mozilla engined Netscape.

Is there no readme or other documention included in the uncompressed file? If there is, then it should give you instructions on how to install. If not, then either check Netscape's website or search for Netscape 6 here and you may find the answer. Haven't tried upgrading myself yet.

When I installed 6 this last time it took about 10 different tries adn when it did complete it took about 45 minuets. I could not get a full install however, I had to do the recommended and then do the smart update to get the java support. Try that and see if it installs. After it is installed go to a terminal type
/usr/local/netscape/netscape and it should launch 6. How this helps.

Once you go thru all this I hope you don't find Net 6 to be as slow as I did. The worst browser I have ever tried as far as speed.
