after installing from floppies and slowly customizing I think that I'm ready to get X up and running.

I have the following:

-Debian Potato with a working ADSL connection to the internet
-ATI Rage128 Expert2000 video card
-Sony Trintron 20" monitor

All my hardware is pretty standard and I have all of the refresh rates for my monitor as well as all the specs for my video card.

any thoughts on the best method to install X?? I'd like to use apt-get where possible but I'm open to any suggestions.

thanks,

Use dselect to install XF86Setup, the X server for your video card, the window manager you want to use, etc.

Then run XF86Setup

That is the way I do it and I have no problems.
