I have Drake 8.0 and Libranet 1.9.1 installed as well as Win98SE on a 8.4 Gb drive. I want to use a shared /home partition between my linux distros, i already share the swap partition,

I have 5545Mb's free after Win98SE, I was thinking along the lines of doing the following:

Shared: swap - 125Mb /boot - 25Mb /home - 600Mb. That would leave approx 2397Mb's for each distro, I would like some suggestions on how i should partiton the 2.4Gb for the non-shared partitons. ( I.E. / - /usr - /var).

I think i would have to install Mandrake 1st and then Libranet, as Mandrake does not let you install or initialize previously mounted partitions.(using Diskdrake). Then i would be able to use a common desktop for both distros.
My present setup is this:
Libranet:
Dev Mount point: Size: Used:
hda7 / 246Mb 56Mb'
hda8 boot 25Mb 1.4Mb
hda9 usr 1.0Gb 881Mb
hda10 var 300Mb 62Mb
hda11 home 690Mb 55Mb

Mandrake:
Dev Mount point size Used
hda12 / 1.5Gb 770Mb
hda13 home 1.3Gb 14Mb
hda14 var 245Mb 58Mb
My swap is hda6 and is 246Mb
hda1 Windows is 1.5Gb
hda5 (vfat) (download) 1.4Gb
hdc1 (vfat) 2nd hdd 1,0Gb
I think what i want to do, can be done ( Am i right?.)sorry about the long post  .
Cheers

Be sure you have the same user id number in both distros, else they will be seen as two different users, even if they have the same name.

That depends on how much software you're going to be installing, and what you'll be doing with the different OSes.

Hmmm... I was going to search the boards to see what others were suggesting for partitions, but it's timing-out on me.

If I were to do it, I'd prob'ly go...

Windows system/programs -- 1.5 gigs
Windows docs/files -- 2 gigs
Mandrake -- 2 gigs
-- root -- 0.25 gig
-- usr -- 1.5 gig
-- var -- 0.25 gig
Libra -- 2 gigs
-- same as MDK
Home -- 0.5 gigs
-- store mp3s/pics/what-nots on the second Win partition

That leaves .4 to use as swaps and boot. You can split off a quarter if you want Windows' swap on a separate partition.
