I'm looking at purchasing an inkjet printer but I need it to run under linux. Any suggestions based on your experiences? I've heard printer support is spotty so any help would be great.

I use an Epson 860 and have had no problems setting it up. Lexmark is supplying linux drivers fo their z32/z52. The best bet is to check if it allows you to print under DOS or MAC, some of them are winprinters. And finally, check out linuxprinting.org. It's the who's who for printing as far as I'm concerned.

Have a great day and good luck.

My cheap HP648C works fine with linux.
I am using Debian and have had no problems with it.
I think I confiugred it to work as an HP550C. But there are drivers, now, for the 648C. I just haven't done it yet since it's working fine at the moment.

HP's are the most supported printers out there. Also the Epson's so those are both good choices.

my lexmark z51 is excellent!
its fast, has good res, and very well supported.
its connected to my linux server and shared to a few ms and linux boxes.
the best part is that i got it for 30 bucks from bidding at www.onsale.com (http://www.onsale.com) a while back.

Best thing about Epson, is that they have been real good about supplying Docs to OSS developers.
