i think i have a problem with my video card. these problems are occuring on my system that make me suspect its my video card.

im running mandrake v9

when i certain games like Tuxracer or Cannon Smash they run really, really slow like 1 fps.
Other games like Chromium wont even execute. Btw, im simply using the shortcuts in the KDE menu to run them.

Also, I have installed Ogle and when I start to play a DVD I can get the first 5 seconds (with inverted colours btw) then the program just dies.

What is all this pointing to? Does anyone have any ideas why all these things are happening? thanks.

To get chromium to run, I had to increase my screen resolution to 24M colors. As luck would have it I was working at compiling the source with optimizations so that it would run faster, like you, it was slow out of the box and I have a 2.5 Gig processor. Anyway, disabling all unneded options with

chromium -v 0 -na -nb -nt

and setting to low detail has increased my screen refresh rate from 3-4 frames/sec to about 40 fps. Almost to the desired 60. Also, I see that it is in debug mode, putting output to STDOUT when running. I am working to disable that. I will let you know. Tuxracer will be next. I had it running smooth on a slower machine in Redhat 7.0. For that one, though, I did the compile from .tgz. I may have to do that again if chromium won't come up to snuff. The one drawback to packaged RPMs, generic and unoptimized.

Are you using the default nvidia driver (nv) included with X or the nvidia specific drivers downloaded and installed from www.nvidia.com ?
