Hi!
I was really happy to see that Mdk9.0 allready recognizes my webcam after installation. i just cant fuigure out which program to use for chatting. A few of my freinds have webcams and use MSN on their windows... any chance of communicating with them..

Is their such a program in the distro?

i tried #locate cam and i got a lot of stuff.. none seems to be an easy answer....

thanx!

Gnome meeting will accept your MSN account but you can only see them and they cannot see you. I don't know of any way to use the webcam unless you both use Gnome meeting. Linux is really lacking in this department because AOL, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo!, etc don't have a version to support web cams on Linux yet. Using Yahoo Messenger and my webcam is one of the reasons Windows is still on my system.

can you even download mandrake 9? I mean... it says its free on the webpage... but I can find no link to download from, their entire webpage seems to be geared towards making you pay for something.... I was considering switching to madrake after I read this post and then continued to research it a bit... but now I'm not so sure....

I've spent the weekend sorting out gnomemeeting on my mdk9. I got 0.94 off the front of Linux Format (it had all the dependant files too!) and updated the supplied version, 0.93.

The ils server supplied works fine but I haven't yet tried to hook it up to any other servers. I got it connected to a guy running XP netmeeting but the video was choppy and so was the sound. He is on a cable connection and I have 56k dialup, might have to play with the setting a bit but it kinda worked!
The camera is a dexxa which is a quickcam (moreorless) But drake got it ok and it also transmits nicely to my site via camorama (http://camorama.fixedgear.org/)

It appears that this link works to download iso images of Mandrake 9.0:

ftp://ftp.orst.edu/pub/mandrake/iso/

I recently ordered Mandrake 9.0 from MandrakeStore (about 1 month ago), but Mandrake just cancelled my order with refund. Anybody know what's up? Are they pushing 9.1, or something more painful?

Every distro that I have, Mandrake 9.0, Redhat 8.0, Slackware, Debian, etc., I have bought from different sellers on ebay. You can get any of them for less than $10 each. I have never had a problem with anyone or with any of the disks that were sent. Just check the feedback rating before you buy.
