I receive a stop : 000021a error when booting win xp in vmware.

It boots fine natively. With VMware it goes up to the point the logon screen would appear. I get to see thw windows xp startup screen with the blue bar scrolling from left to right and then The Blue screen of death..

I have created the virtual profile as stated on the vmware site.. I have also expanded the 2 files from the xp cdrom. What am I missing.. ??

Any suggestions or thoughts ?

You may need to boot into save mode, change the display driver to standard VGA and then install the VMware tools.

Other than that, contact VMware support as I suggested in the Private Message I sent you.

Since VMware is commercial software (and very expensive), you are entitled to support.

Thanks for the info and my fault for ranting b4. Just frustrated. I would contact vmware, but I don't believe they troubleshoot evanuation versions. I won't pay for it if I'm not sure it will work..

I have researched the error I get and here is the description :

Stop 0x000021A or STATUS_SYSTEM_PROCESS_TERMINATED---This indicates there is a serious security problem or a user mode subsystem problem, such as Winlogon or the Client Server Runtime Subsystem (Csrss.exe). The most common cause is a third party program which should be removed or if a backup set has been partially restored, causing a mismatch in sytem files or if the System account no longer has permission to access the sytem files and folders.

Anything different on your XP installation from the norm? Third party client/server programs?

I've successfully booted W2K in VMware using rawdisk access in the past and never really had any problems that I can remember.

Did you follow ALL the instructions for booting from a rawdisk partition?

The xp install is a clean install with the exception of winzip and winrar. It boots fine if I go straight into it. Just my luck. I did as you said and low and behold vmware does offer limited support for the evaluation version. I will submit my inquiry when I get home as I have to include the vmware log file..Hope they don't take all weekend to reply . LOL

When I was evaluating one of the earlier versions of VMware, I found their support to be quite good. Actually it was on rawdisk access of which didn't work that well on their earlier versions

Guess they do provide support in hopes you will eventually purchase their product. Makes sense...

Nothing to help in all their online documentation or their forums/usergroups?
