okay, so I downloaded an rpm of wine and double clicked on it. I probably should have logged in as root first. It said something was missing, but I chosse to install it anyway. Also, I tried to copy some midi's from my CD drive. I am running Mandrake 8.2 with KDE. When I tried to copy the midi's it stayed at 0%.
I cannot get midis to play on Linux. I know the rest of my sound works cause I tried Smiletris and the CD player with a music CD. Now, everytime I open my home directory in Konquerer, I get this flashing and it has the wine file name. Then it closes. I can't do anything with it.

Okay, so I tried to use the command line and I got this message that I need rpm-helper in order to instal wine. Where do I get this rpm helper? With ms, I used to simply look for the ms.dll on the web, but this method doesn't seem to be working all that well for linux. I also tried to install another package and got that libvorbisfile.so.3 is needed.

anytime you want to install anything major in linux, you need to be root.

any other errors after this should be posted. It's pretty hard to guess what's going on, especially for those of us with slightly different distros.
