downloading and installing

i have resintly converdead from windos to linux iam runing mandrake8.2linux i download some games a mp3player and a video player but what do i need to do to install it on my box i mean the icon is their and i click on it and nothing happens is their some kind of softwar i need to download t obe able to install softwar on my box :rolleyes:

First off, welcome to the world of Linux. For the files you downloaded, what is the extension fo the file? Is it a filename.rpm? If so, you can install those by:

rpm -i filename.iX86.rpm

(I say iX86 because it will be either i386 or maybe i686 depending upon your processor and the file).
