Error messages?

What drivers are you using? Nvidia's or the stock one from X.

Did you change your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file to match the specs of the new card?

I'm having the same problem.. but rather than starting a new thread:

I just removed my Diamond Stealth Xtreme S540 and replaced it with a GeForce2, and now the GUI won't come up, I can't even log in at the command prompt now - the computer screen flickers at the login prompt, and the only keyboard commands it will accept are Ctl-Alt-Del.

When I booted the system up with the new video card, it caught that I had made a change, prompted me to remove the old configuration (which I did) and then continued on, and now I'm stuck.

Every distro seems to have their own X configuration utility.

You can always revert to the XFree86 web site. The instructions on their web site will always work.

XFree86.org/support (http://www.xfree86.org/support.html)

Good Luck,

There's a nice program in mandrake. Log in as root (or if you are really desparate boot into single user mode), and then run "XFdrake". That is a text based XFconfiguration progam by mandrake. I'm sure there are other automated programs for settting up, but finding documentation on XF86config and editing the file yourself is probably the best way. Good luck.
