Is there such an animal, and if so, where? I am downloading the kernel, but it would be better if there was a rpm of the thing.

Check out this link, I think it has what you want

:cool:

Although I am not sure why you don't want to roll your own kernel so you can add the options you want or need:)

Because I am so new and this is only part of fixing a problem with my X system. Video Chipset 82845G isn't supported by the delivered XFree86, So I poked around and the fix states that it needs kernel 2.4.20.

One thing leads to another.

<soapbox>
But it's reasons like this that Linux isn't making it on the desktop. Until it can support current hardware more easliy, those who want to USE a computer instead of SCREW with it will avoid it. User friendly is the key to mass acceptance.

There are so many folks out there who are disgusted with M$ that they would be willing to switch, providing using the thing wasn't such a pain.
</soapbox>

However, there doesn't appear to be a RPM for 2.4.20 so it looks like I will try to roll my own. shucks. Oh, well, I did get the box and system for the learning. And boy am I learning!:eek:

I hear ya, it can be rough compiling a new kernel I still have problems some times:) but IMHO it is a good idea to learn how to compile software from source.

good luck post back if you need more help also check out the NHF's for compiling kernels these are very helpful
