scantv xawtv problems

Hi

I have a Hauppauge Win TV BT878 card.

I have been watching television with no problems for months until recently (on both RH8.0 and Gentoo). The card autodetects, i then modprobe bttv and tuner (in gentoo) and then watch TV.

In RedHat the modules are loaded anyway and all that is required is to edir the /etc/modules.conf file.

Anyway, now when i attempt to watch TV i get a very noisy picture, kinda vertical lines down the window and unwatchable.
I have checked the card in the PCI bay, the connection to the areial cable etc. I have tried re-running scantv and id doesn't pick up any chanels - it did in the past.

What does this mean? Has the signal simply weakened or what?

I am confident using this card as i have used it for months now, it is only recently gone down the ****ter (i have tried another card and recompiled a kernel in gentoo - both to no avail)

This is a pain in the arse, it was working and now it's gone and i can't find any way of fixing it.

Is there any way i can measure the strength of the signal being received?
