Loop at shutdown

When I logout and then shutdown mandrake, it goes into a loop (screen that scrolls numbers and letters). It disables the power button so I can't even manually shut the computer down! I have to hit the reset button and then boot windows and shut down from there.
Any ideas?

hold the power button down for 5 or so seconds.

Can't help you with the loop thing, that's wierd, but ain't there a power off button on the back of your computer that kills it even when the front button don't work?

I've got that button on mine so if anything gets screwed up with the normal button I use that one.....maybe a little faster than booting up windows first.

Wish I could help with the loop, but I don't have a clue. :(

Did you do anything else before this happened? That is, was it shutting down normally before?
