I'm in a bit of a fix here. Here is my partitioning scheme:

1) Primary - FAT32 - Windows ME (C:)
2) Primary - Linux swap - Swap (Red Hat)
3) Primary - ext2 - Linux Native (/) (Red Hat)
4) Primary - Extended*
1. Logical - FAT - WinMe (D:)
2. Logical - FAT - WinMe (E:)
2. Logical - FAT - WinMe (F:)
2. Logical - FAT - WinMe (G:)
2. Logical - FAT - WinMe (H:)

I would like to add another Linux Native partition, but I can't add anymore primary partitions (I'd gladly get rid of that blasted extended partition, but I need it). So my question is, is it possible to put all of your linux partitions into an extended partition (as logical partitions)? I'd like this to be my new scheme:

1) Primary - FAT32 - Windows ME (C:)
2) Primary - Extended*
1. Logical - Linux Swap - Swap (Red Hat)
2. Logical - ext2 - Linux Native (/) (Red Hat)
3. Logical - ext2 - Linux Native (/) (Another distro)
4. Logical - FAT - WinMe (D:)
5. Logical - FAT - WinMe (E:)
6. Logical - FAT - WinMe (F:)
7. Logical - FAT - WinMe (G:)
8. Logical - FAT - WinMe (H:)

Will this work? I'm putting all of my linux partition inside one extended partition. And another question. My linux partitions are past the 1024 cylinder, so don't I need a boot partition? I talked to techinal support (Red Hat) and they said that this wasn't necessary in my case. I assume it's because that limitation only occurs in older computers...

Thanks for the feedback. =)

Lately these boards have become very unreliable for getting my linux questions answered. My question isn't very difficult to answer, so why isn't anyone replying to this and my other questions?

I had to post at printing forums in order to get my previous printing question answered, because none you replied to my thread. I'm sure there are other linux-in-general forums out there too for me to post in... :o

Calm down. You posted this all of 6 hours ago. People here are volunteering their time and knowledge to help out others. If you insult the group because you think we aren't paying close enough attention to your post then you are unlikely to make any friends around here.

Yes you can have all your partitions as logical in linux. In fact I have not READ anything to the contrary. If you put the words "partitioning linux" into a search engine you might find some good information on this. You might find that your easy question did not even need to be asked.

My pleasure

Thank you. Maybe the words "partitioning" and "printing" are just discouraging phrases, like "GNOME & KDE." I didn't mean to be rude, but I guess it came out that way.

I still have my printing question unsolved (I never actually could get good answers from other forums), but oh well... just forget it...

Thanks to a lot of free time, I can assure you that Linux (Mandrake, anyways) just loves being inside extended partitions. I just built a new system. Here is my up-to-the-second partition layout:

Primary 2GB FreeBSD 4.4
Primary 1.5GB QNX 6.1.0
~1.5GB FREE~ (a mistake on my part, will repurpose)
Primary 1GB FAT16
Extended 34GB
-50MB Linux ext2 /boot
-1.5GB BeOS (if I can ever get it installed)
-1.5GB Free (wanted QNX to go here, but it wants a primary)
-3GB NTFS WinXP
-4GB NTFS Win2K
-2GB NTFS personal files
-2GB FAT32 WinME
-16GB FAT32 downloads and junk
-2GB ReiserFS Linux /
-0.5GB ReiserFS Linux /home
-100MB Linux swap

Yes, you've read that correctly. I'm currently multi-booting between 6 OSes (I wanted to give Solaris and Darwin a run, but looks like no joy). BeOS is also giving me some trouble. Oh yeah, I'm using the NT Loader as the boot mechanism (/dev/hda3, if you will, is the active partition).

Any suggestions on other OSes? :p

Daaaaammmmn...six different OS's. That would definitely confuse the heck out of me. That's a lot of Windows for one system, too...

Yeah, six is alot, but it works. I'm forging on with Win2K as my primary OS (yes, I know this is a Linux board, don't shoot me ... yet!). I picked up the other versions to test out software before I run them on my "pristine" Win2K install.

Besides, I'm still an official MS beta tester, so I have to play nice with the big boys. Oh yeah, there's no way I've *paid* for any of this software, hehe.

Oh! I thought the beta testers where the ones who bought MS software at retail prices ;)

Hehe, funny, I thought the entire western world was officially an MS beta tester, or is it alpha tester?
