Website Questions...

I am building my first website and am in the process of learning HTML, XHTML, CSS and PHP. (Actually, HTML and XHTML are pretty close to the same thing) So far, I just about have all of the basics down (except for PHP, it will take a little longer)

Now, for my questions:
(1) What would be some good content and/or ideas ? (What would you guys like to see ?) I would like to build a site that everyone will enjoy.
(2) Where is a good place to find Open Source backgrounds, icons, clipart and etc ? (Yes, i did look at x.themes.org (http://x.themes.org) --I have found plenty of sites, but they are all restricted in one way or another)
(3) Any tips or tricks that you guys care to share ?

<EDIT> BTW, I am building my site with Vim, Emacs and even a little gEdit http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif </EDIT>
