I'm about as new as you can get to Linux. I just bought the Dummies books with Red Hat 7. I have an extra hard drive that I can install in my system as drive D.
Can I install Linux to drive D or would I have to switch the drives around the make the spare drive C temporarily

Hi! I'm new too... but I am quite sure you can install your linux in drive d with out switching it over.
I presume that you are running windows on your C drive and you will still continue to use it. So I think the concern here is more of the dual boot issue. The redhat installation is pretty straight forward.
Have fun!! I myself just installed Redhat 7 less than a month ago.

Yes, you can put Linux on your second hard drive. This a particularly good idea if you don't want to mess with partitioning. The fun then comes with dual-booting. This shouldn't be a problem. When you get to the stage of the install that asks where you want to install LILO, choose to put it on the Master Boot Record. I'm not certain, but I'm fairly sure that Red Hat will detect your windows installation (last time I installed Red Hat was back in the 6.1 days). If you do this, then you will have the choice of which OS to use when you boot up.
Hope this helps.
