my keyboard and mouse lock up frequently. it happens only when i come out of the screen saver and locks instantly. so w/ winblows mentalitiy still i turn off the screen saver. still does it after the machine sits still for a few minutes. i will say i did once over heat 1 processor once 255 degrees and dropped the machine once from a 2" hight. dont no if that has done something befoore i installed rh otherwise works like a charm. any tip on how to rid this problem

Since no one else will, and not being very smart, I'll bite:

Did you drop the machine while trying to get it out of the oven?

Knowing as little as I do about linux, this is a chance for me to ask what device or program or whatever is supposed to interrupt the system once it is hung up? Surely something is responsible for doing this.

This is an opportunity for the senior grasshoppers to shine.

lol. good 1

i over heated it when a wire got stuck on a cpu fan and dropped it while getting it off the desk 2 seperate ocasions.

but anyway my 1st post had a ryhme and reason tonight it locked 4 times in 45 min. 3 while useing it and once while at the log in prompt. how can i fix this? or begin to diagnose the problem?

I believe you are wise to disable the screensaver ( at least until the problem is fixed )

I've no idea how your BIOS works, but you might try -

Under Bios Features setup, I can disable the Quick Power On Self Test. I believe this forces a check of the RAM and may test other things. I think defective memory can cause the system to hang.

Since your system hangs after a few minutes sitting idle, it might mean that some "power saving" thing is causing the problem. Again in Bios, under Power Management Setup, first record your present settings, and then try enabling or disabling various PM Timers. Perhaps one of them is at fault.

I think I missed an excellent opportunity to keep my mouth shut about the oven. Sorry.
