Just installed fluxbox with no errors in mandrake 9 and did a re-boot. I created /home/.fluxbox , /home/.xinitrc . How do I start it ? I don't see any other option in my gui login. Is there a test I can run to see where I went wrong. I can almost taste this 1 working...

You don't see any other option in your gui login? So this means you are using a login manager... Fluxbox is probably installed correctly if you try to execute 'fluxbox' and get an error that the 'X server is already used' or something like that. What you need to do is to modify your login manager so that you get another wm in the list (as an option). How to do this depends on the login manager you use... is it gdm, kdm, xdm or something else? The one I use is wdm and is pretty easy to set up (that's the way it was meant to be). I used kdm before that, and I think the config file I needed to modify was .xinitrc.. not that sure. Anyway, you could look and search into this, or just ask for more help.. but you gotta tell what's the login manager you are using, as there's a different procedure for adding entries on each login manager.
Oh by the way, I don't recommend just creating an empty .fluxbox directory, instead I would copy the contents of the 'global' fluxbox directory (I think this is explained ont he online documentation, and the manual, too).

I know this must sound like I'm an a$$, but how can I tell what login manager I have ? Also, I've copied the files..

Um... not so easy to tell. Kdm looks all Qt styled... if you have KDE and have run the K-apps you'll know that the login looks just like one of them. If you use Gnome and have Gnome-apps (GTK-based apps) then gdm will look more like that, I think (never seen it, so...). Hmm... Well, you could try doing the manual or trying to execute the login managers directly from the console to see if you get a 'kdm command not found' message. If you get otherwise (something like 'only root wants to run this command') then you got that login manager installed. If you don't have KDE, it's unlikely you have Kdm, if you don't have Gnome, it's unlikely you have Gdm.. altough, I believe that you might wanna try another way around this.
You said you created .xinitrc? So you don't have that file by default... if I am not mistaken, the only distro (that I've heard of) that doesn't uses that file is RedHat, so I guess gnome is your main desktop enviroment, and thus, you should have the control center available (gnomecc is the command to launch it), and if I am not mistaken, from it you can configure your login manager (if it's gdm) so that might be an easier way to get Flux added to the list of windows managers.

Here is the /home/jayson/.xsession-errors file.

Is this the directory I should have the .xsession and .xinitrc and .fluxbox dir ?
