hello world!
I recently got rid of Windows 98 completely, and am now running Redhat 7.0. I am aware of the hacking that has occured in recent times. I would like to know everyone's opinions on the best firewall/security protocol available. Thanks much

Until I used my router/hub for this purpose, I was using EasyChains for ease of setup and use:

I highly recommend PortSentry which I have been using for about six months now in addition to ipchains. It is small, easy to install and configure. I learned the hard way that you need to protect yourself even if your just surfing during a session. A hacker using an isp server in Cebu,Phillipines paid me a visit and left some goodies on my box. Turn off all services on your machine you never use. Make sure your users use long, complex passwords and don't forget to check those log files regularly no matter what your firewall is. Best wishes and Good Luck...

Using a very slow modem connect, I use gShield and its gui config tool gshieldconf - quick and very easy to setup.

does anyone know an easy to setup firewall for iptables? I'm regretting upgrading to 2.4 (in my install it said iptables was required for what i wanted), as long as it isn't 'Only Gnome' or 'Only Kde' junk i'd love it

I believe there is a utility called FireStarter that is Kernel 2.4 ready.
