You're trying to cut and paste I assume?

First, highlight the test you want to paste. Just highlight it, and don't do anything else to it. Now open up the window you want to paste that text to. Move your cursor to the location you want to paste the text to. Click on the middle mouse button (or if you're using a two-mouse-button, click them both simultaneously) and the highlighted text will be transferred to the new window.
