G'day,
I am a rank linux newbie, so please bear with me.
I have numerous q's, but my most presssing one at the moment is my apparent disabling of mozilla. I have decided on using mozilla as I find it easy to use (because I have been an ex-netscape user), plus I can use it for offline news reading. I have susbscribed to a number on linux newsgroups, and am aatempting to teach myself as much as I can, and only ask q's when I'm really stuck.
When browsing through newsgroups, I noticed the date format (mm/dd/yy), and being an Aussie, I prefer the dd/mm/yy format. Looking through preferences, I notice there was a en-uk language module I could download and install, which is what I have done. Now mozilla will not start
I am using KDE 3.0 with mandrake 9.0, and when mozilla is launched, mozilla shows in the task bar and after a while it stops. Is there any way I can restore or undo what I have done here? I have another application which does this too, but will worry about that later as it is not preessing.
Sorry for the long-winded post, but I wanted to give as much info as possible.
TIA
Phil

I'm not really sure of how to fix the Mozilla problem.
Try running mozilla at the commandline/terminal to see what errors it displays. That might help to troubleshoot.
You may be able to find the mozilla config file and manually edit and change the reference to the language module it is using.
I would suggest you try changing the date format in the KDE Control Center. Mine has Personalization/Country & Language/Times & Dates.
How did you install the en-uk language module? Was it a rpm package?
If so, try uninstalling the rpm package using
rpm -e packagename (without the version/extension)

Tnx for the reply :)
Update: I have managed to get mozilla working (sorta), by forcing it to open via konqueror:
Location | Open with Mozilla.
Now I was able to get mozilla running (am using it now to post this message). It appears that the faulty module is the news/mail as this is what crashes mozilla. I disabled news from starting
via:
Edit | Preferences | Appearance | when Mozilla starts up...
so at least I have the browser back.

No change in behaviour :( News still crashes mozilla.

I have tried to find what appears to be the config file, but as a newbie, it escapes me.

I have done this not too long after I installed mandrake (aprox 2 weeks ago). I was using knode at the time and it had the desired effect, but not in mozilla (hence this problem).

No, it was not an rpm package. I made the modification in:
Edit | Preferences | Appearance | Languages and Contents Packs
and clicked on the download more button. I was then taken to:
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/l10n/mlp_status.html#contrib
where I selected the Eng (UK) link (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/l10n/mlp_status.html#moz_1.1)
when a dialog popped up asking me if I wanted to install and I clicked yes
I am very new to linux and am currently on a steep learning curve. I have been using dos/win since 1989, so I have a fair bit of unlearning to do. Thanks for your patience.

Success!
After reading various suggestions/messages from others (usenet is helpful too), I have got my news function in mozilla operating again :p
Briefly, my line of thought (after much reading) was tending towards a faulty intstall of the language package. I decided I would try installing again with the hope it would overwrite whatever was causing the problem. And it did!
On reflection I am now certain I installed the wrong package (possibly for a later version) which caused mozilla to break in the way it did.
Lesson learnt? More haste, less speed. In my zeal for wanting to get my teeth into learning linux, I was guilty of something I have done so many times in windows - indiscriminate clicking!
Next time, I will read what is in front of me, as well as a liberal sprinkling of rtfm!
Thanks for your help/suggestions :)

Glad to at least try to help.
Well done. Persistance (and R'nTFM) certainly does pay off. :)
