GAIM Connection difficulties

I'm using GAIM .59.1 on Red Hat 8 and I can't seem to keep a connection on it. It doesn't error or anything, it just stops letting me get and send messages, plus I can't get info or any of that. It's like I'm getting booted. AIM works fine in Windows, so I'm thinking it must be some setting or something in Linux. Can anyone enlighten me?

maybe you should try 0.59.6 (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gaim/gaim-0.59.6-1.i386.rpm?download)

rpm -e gaim
rpm -ivh gaim-0.59.6-1.i386.rpm

there are a lot of changes (http://gaim.sourceforge.net/ChangeLog) from 0.59.1
