Have you read about the latest microsoft's new palladium software/hardware... I just read about the matter, and im completely pissed off... read about it:

http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/users/rja14/tcpa-faq.html

it seems microsoft is working with intel to make a new infrastructure that will change pc's as we know them... now microsoft will be in control of every single document on our pc's ... rent the sofware and even disable our software if licences expire... theres a movement at http://www.stoppalladium.org/ to stop this... they even want to change the internet tcp/ip protocol to tcp/ms protocol... and end with gnu licences. no more mp3, no more dvd's without digital authorization, no more cd's to listen to the whole time (just whenever they want you to).

the scary part is that it's just around the corner and seems like the will be aproved by the government.

really, I dont even have words to express here what's really going on... you have to read... all of you who want to support linux, who like GNU licenses, who know the truth about windows and cares about all the effort spent on linux and other systems please read , get informed and act now!

I just hope that a large amount of consumers get aware of what palladium really is by the time it gets to the market !!!

we just need to share this information with as many people as we can: friends, family, anyone ! We have the power of information and thats all we need !!

Most ideas are good ideas. At least in theory. Palladium would allow Microsoft to limit what files could be read by what program. However, so could any other competitor along as their software was certified.

As far as renting and expiring software licenses this is already happening with or without Palladium. Renting software, or software as a service is one of the "features" behind .NET and similar technologies.

The goal by some companies is to turn the PC into essentially a dumb terminal (diskless). As broadband users increase in numer remote sotrage will eliminate the need to store files locally. The consumer market will be affect more highly then corporate markets as remote storage will still resides for the part within the coporate network with some residing elsewhere for various reasons. Other companies don't go as far (at least not yet). A perfect example of this is .mac (dot mac).

they even want to change the internet tcp/ip protocol to tcp/ms protocol

And this is new how? MS been trying to do this for quite some time. One thing restricting them is of course the fact that most of the Internet is composed of various unices.

the scary part is that it's just around the corner and seems like the will be aproved by the government.

What? Sure there's support by various memebers of Congress who are supported by the entertainment industry but not by all. A number of instituions within the US goivernment are proposing wide spread use of open source software. The Initiative for Software Choice recent slammed the DoD study of FOSS (free open source software). One argument was the trainging and support of OSS behind "switching to OSS". MS has used this argument with corporations looking to move to OSS such as GNU/Linux. The DoD countered by noting it already supports OSS and has numerous open source projects it has been working on/with for years. 50% of the DoD's products are GPL based.

You act as if the is all new! Intel and AMD chips will both be equipped with Palladium within the coming year. Of course it can be disabled. If the technology takes off however it will limit what you can and cannot do.
