Hello everyone. Well, going to introduce myself here really quickly. My name is Jason and i've been using Windows for quite some time now. Over the past week I decided to take the dive into Linux. I did for a lot of reasons, but mostly because I thought it looked fun. Well, I love it! It absolutely rulez! Wish I would have started a long time ago.
Well, i went out and bought a book called LINUX BIBLE. It came with Red Hate 7.1. I installed it no problem. All the hardware in my system checked out fine. Not it is a matter of just learning all the commands and how to work in Linux. I am starting to get a handle on it, but there is still so much to learn and i want to soak up as much as I can. I swear, Linux is addicting!
My question is, does anyone have any suggestions for a book, for websites or anything where I can learn how to learn Linux from the ground up.
Anyone have some good suggestions on how to work with tarballs, gunzip, rpm, tar.grz stuff. Just trying to learn as much as I can.
Thanks everyoen! Feels good to be part of the Linux World!

Also, www.google.com/linux (http://www.google.com/linux) is a great place to go when you're having a problem. Just run a search for it, and thers a pretty good chance you'll find the answer.
:) www.linuxnewbie.org (http://www.linuxnewbie.org) :) --where you can get your questions answered
:D www.slackware.org (http://www.slackware.org) :D --where you can get your next distro once you get used to redhat.
Thats all I can say right now. Oh and watch for trolls ;) (people that hate linux and make fun of the suppirior os.)

There are distros...then there's RedHat...and there's the RedHat that *should have been* (Linux Mandrake).
Linux Mandrake is what RedHat Linux *should have been* (at least as a client or workstation). Better packages, better *documentation*, even a better package manager default (though the new RedHat up2date is making things tough).

Not to mention the beta of Roswell.
aka RedHat 7.1.94 it's looking pretty sweet imho ;)
I had some goofy problems trying to upgrade, but I guess my partitions were at goofy boundaries. Partitioning software is a waste of time and money I guess...
And welcome to the revolution!!

Hey now- this isn't a "distro war" thread, it's a "help a newbie" thread. ;)

It's good to have you Linuxenigma. Anything you in need of help just come to this site. I been posting here for 2 years. I stop duel booting just a year ago. I like Linux because of the freedom and power you get over the OS. I have a buddy I help out all the time that use Linux, he has my cell and home number.
