You should have a line in your /etc/inetd.conf that starts it for you. "man ftpd" will give you all the options and explanations on what it does as well as the files associated with ftpd.

WU-ftpd is fine but if you would like an easier to setup and more secure ftpd then try ProFTPd
http://www.proftpd.org/

Damn it I rebooted the box and now i get connection refused when I try to ftp to it. I havent edited the ftpaccess file or anything. WTF. I just need and FTP server that I can ssh into the box, turn it on, ftp some files, shut it down, and disconnect. This shouldnt be this hard. I want to try another daemon how do I uninstall wu-ftpd?

OK heres where I am. I found a ftpd that makes sence "bftpd". The install went well and the config file is easy to read. I can start it as standalone as well. Anyway Im getting 2 errors when i try to start it. Have a look and tell me what you think it could be.

421-Could not get peer IP address.
421 Socket operation on non-socket.

TIA.

It is rumoured that wu-ftp was created by the Wu-Tang Clan.

I prefer proftp.
