I am setting up a computer at home that will only have MP3 music files on it. It will be connected to a network so we can access these files to play them from any computer in the house. All the other computers will be running Windows 98SE or 2000, but I would like something small, basic and stable for this file server.
Any suggestions will be greatly appretiated as I know nothing about Linux.
Thanks,
Stickboy

What you've described is exactly what Linux is good at. Get yourself any of the major distro's (my reccomendation is SuSE but opinions greatly vary and Peanut Linux is very small) and install SAMBA. SAMBA is the Windows networking protocal and your MP3 computer will then show up in Network Neighbourhood like any of your W2K, ME, or 98 machines.

Here's a guide to choosing which distro (flavour) you may need (http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/distros/distronhf.html)
