Is it easy to ugrade xfree86 from 3.36 to 4.03? It seems that it requires initscripts 5.20 which is an old version that is not in the list of rpmfind.net.

Christopher Estep 09-23-2001, 03:38 PM RH 7.1 also includes XFree86 4.1.0 as an option (and for newer graphics cards actually makes more sense). If you have AGP and/or a 2.4.x-series kernel, then XFree should be your X of choice. bluesky 09-23-2001, 03:47 PM My mistake. I didn't checked carefully. ACtually redhat has xfree86-4.03. Thanks. spiffgq 09-23-2001, 04:02 PM It is really easy to upgrade from 4.0.3 to 4.1 in Redhat. Basically, you just download the files, run a script, and then run the x config program and your set to go. Except for download times and special considerations, it'll probably take you no more than 10 minutes to upgrade x. subnet_rx 09-23-2001, 06:12 PM well, it's a little harder than that. I ended up having to reinstall my system after a bad upgrade to 4.1 I think it had to do with those pointers to configuration files. justlinux.com
