1'S AND 0'S ON BOOT UP

Mandrake 7.0, Western Digital 2 plate 1.2 gig HDD, boot partition of 50MB, basic setup using CD: instead of LILO displaying the screen is filled with 1's and 0's. I have written zeros to the disk, reinstalled, etc. Only way I can get system to boot is using a floppy. Any suggestions?

you must setup your boot loader again. It somehow got corrupted

Is your HDD setup as the master or slave. I ran into this problem w/ a machine not to long ago, couldn't get lilo to work when HDD was slave, and the cd-rom was the master. Switched them and it worked!!

Actually it is slaved. Hmm....
