Playing mpeg 1/2/3/4 videos and installing Java ??

hello all

1st i would like to say that reading on this forum made me download mandrake 9.0 and dual booted with my xp pro and so far there is things i like and others that i dont,

but i need help with this right now

actually i need 3 things:

1- i need to be able to play mpeg 1/2/3/4 videos
2- i need to play AVI
3- how can i install Java?

oh and another thing i try to install several programs and it wont doit

they are bmud-musicmach juke box-xmms player-and the lates update from mozilla


i am using mandrake 9.0 with gnome

another thing is can someone post me where can i go and grab packages at,its a little lame i have to search google/linux every time i want to do something,, isnt there like a FREE webpage with the best of the best for every distro?

Download MPlayer and win32 codec package from mplayers site and download divx5 codec for linux and it will play anything. Install programs using tar packages it's good way and not depend on distro.

okay i think i can do all that BUT now messing around i tyhink i made a big BO BO

i cant get online i mess up somehow my ip settings is there any way i can like reset it to default or to what ever it was when i first installed mdk?
