O k i got a geforce 2 ti 64mb video card all i can get on it is 24bit 800/600 resolution on the setting in linux is there away i can set it higher to like 32bit 1280/1024 pixels i'm runing windows 2000 on the other hard drive and i'm able to get it when i boot up in win 2000 but when i boot up in linux it different i try to see if i can change it but the option is shaded out and i cant do now more setting what can i do to fix this or is that all i be able to get it set to in linux
Linux 24bit realy is Windows 32bit. You can change resolution did you mean that you want to change xwindows (like kde gnome) resolution or bootup/commandline resolution. If you want change xwindows resolution you need to edit /etc/XFree86Config? file and add new modes. If you want change boot/commandline resolution you need to edit boot loader config files /etc/lilo.conf or /etc/grup.conf and add line like vga=792 792 is 1024x768x16bit? but this will not affect to xwindows.

THanks for the info i would like to change the pixels to 1280by1024 how can i change it to that i'm new and a lot off people write command line for linux and to tell you i dont even know where to use the command it all new to me i install linux because i heard it much better than ms windows so i want to learn and see for myself if that true but it seem hard to get around linux i like to also see my hard drive and check how much space i got left on it after installing linux redhat 8.0
Change your kde/gnome resolution first this is quite good thread:
http://linuxnewbie.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=70805
Not very good site about how to change command line resolution:
http://mobilix.org/compaq_presario1600xl155_e.html
Probably you want to use vga=795

I just did df -k -B G and it's telling me I have a 14GB drive with 12GB in use.... How much space does Linux exactly take up because I 5GB of media and RTCW (so factor another gig) and a few programs. I should be using 7-8GB on my drive at max.... are there some tmp files out there I can delete?
That doesn't show disk useage there chief, it just shows how big each partiton takes up on the drive. To find out total disk useage type
du -h -all
Edit: yea I only have 5.6G in use :).... much more reasonable compared to my 12GB in use.

But as to your problem, the problem is simply that the thing is an HP Pavilion. I have had nothing but bad luck with HP systems: they used to be extremely proprietary (and may in fact still be), plus there are issues like this with them. What the HP people seem not to understand is that while it's not too bad of an idea to stop people from shooting themselves in the foot, programming a proprietary BIOS setup program that completely removes these options is NOT the way to do it.
I hate to say it, but your best bet may be to move away from HP. Unless someone else has any ideas?
