When i reboot my linux box, it comes up with:
***An error occured during the file system check.
***Dropping you to a shell; the system will reboot
***when you leave the shell
Give root password for maintainenance
(or type Ctrl - D for normal setup):

I then use fsck - A -V ; echo == $? ==
The following message returns.

e2fsck need terminal for interactive repairs
== 8 ==
(so i imagine that this means that there is an operational error, can anyone tell me how to fix this? I'm a newbie so if you can please don't assume any particular knowledge on my part! thx!

Sorry this is not a real answer, but when you I've got it you should look at the answer to the topic "linux blocking" I'm to post.
We have had your problem, somebody solved it during my hollydays and gave me no notice so I can't answer you, and now we've got a linux system stalling from now to then.

The best thing to do in this situation is run fsck wothout the switches i.e -a -v and instead enter your root password and run fsck on your seperate partitions if you know what they are.

i.e. fsck /dev/hda1

hope this helps

It seems that my post "linux blocking" has been thrown out, so I got no answer.
