I have mapped an icon to my Windows partition where I have sitting several mp3 I owuld like to listen to in Linux. (without copying them over to my linux partition).
((Im a newb remember.... please dont laugh))
But I see 2 players -- XMMS(?) which has a cool interface and another that is plain and ugly......
Neither one can I just open and figure out how to browse to my Windows to open the Mp3s over there.....!
If I open Konquerer I can get to the files then right click and hit open with Xmms (i think that is the right name) ---- But then I cant ADD more than one song to a playlist.
I dont really understand XMMS system of finding files...at least when it comes to a different MOUNT POINT...
can someone help? --does this make sense?
also is there a cooler player out there? this one is pretty cool but I love variety!!!
thanks!

If I understand your question correctly...
When you get to your MP3 files in Konqueror, look at the directory you're in; for example, I run Windows 2000 along with Linux, so mine are in /mnt/nt/Program Files/winamp/mp3 . Then, if you want to add MP3s to your playlist in XMMS, just click the add button, then move around the directory structure until you get to the relevant directory. Then select the MP3s you want (using SHIFT and CTRL as needed) and click OK.
That's all there is to it.

Although a bit off topic, how did you do this? Everything I tried just copies the files over to linux. I know I'm missing something simple - just can't figure it out.
Thanks :)

Under Gnome I'm not sure, but under KDE3:
Right-click on the desktop, go to Create New -> Link to Location, then in the dialog box that pops up, enter "/mnt/nt/mp3/" or whatever the directory is. (quotes excluded, of course) This creates an icon that links directly to the directory, without copying anything (at least, it hasn't copied anything of mine yet).
There's probably a similar way to do it under Gnome and other window managers, but I use KDE3, so that's all I know (right now).

MISTER MATH -- this is my problem I suppose, please forgive my stupidity...
But I cannot FIGURE OUT HOW TO "MOVE AROUND THE DIRECTORY STRUCTURE" to find my Windows mount!!!! -- I mean I can find anything in Linux, but cannot figure out with the XMMS program how to find the Windows Partition...
In Konq, I can go to the screen that shows all my mount points and then just pick Windows, but in XMMS, it is different.... it is the whole "/" thingy and I cannot figure out HOW TO FIND the windows partition from inside that program... you see?
If you can do it, can you please explain this to me... I feel like an idiot, but I have tried to go into Disks or IDE or anything like that and cannot find where the Windows mount is... thanks

OOOOPPPPSSS !!! Found it.... it is in the MNT under the Root ---- so I just kept going up to the "/" directory and then Found "mnt" and under it was "Windows" -- and then I can now find my files...
thanks so much!!!!!! Sorry for the trouble.
