I don't think so. But there is alternative clients that support file transfer. What protocol do you use?

grab the latest cvs of gaim file transfer is included just right click on the users name and its an option

try going to gaim's webpage and reading their FAQ. It's the first question I believe under OSCAR (the aim protocol).

file transferring doesnt' work under any protocol yet in stable gaim. Hell it doesn't work right in windows, so why should it work right in the port ;)
