Mandrake9.0 ,Win XP pro and Win98SE triple boot machine.

I started with a new Maxtor 40GB drive and set it up as a FAT32 single partition.

Next did a normal install of Win98SE.
(Tell setup program to install it to "c:\win")

Next did a boot load install from the CD Win XP pro, don't let it use the NTFS file system, choose option four "Use existing partition".

Next do a boot CD install of Mandrake 9.0 "I'm sure some other distros would work fine here" This is the tricky part for a newbie during the install.

Resize (hda)=(C drive) down to around 30GB this will leave around 10GB for Mandrake Linux.

Next make the three partitions for Linux ext2,swap and native.

make a 4GB ext2 block
make 500KB swap block
use the rest around 5GB for the native block.
continue with the install normally.

When booting LILO will ask (Linux or Windows) if you ask for Windows it will let you choose (XP or Win98SE).

AMD 1.4GHZ SIS motherboard with lotsa RAM.

Over 15 days and this machine is still running solid.

I have each operating system loaded with programs and the cool thing is you can share files between OS platforms.
